Milestone of India - State bags three literacy awards. (Karnataka - India.)

BANGALORE: Karnataka has bagged three national awards for the exemplary implementation of literacy programme for 2010-11.

A press release from the Chief Minister's Secretariat said Karnataka State Literacy Mission Authority headed by the Chief Minister has been awarded the Sathyan Mytra Memorial National-level Literacy Award for the 2010-11. Gadag District Loka Shikshana Samiti has bagged this award under district category.

Similarly, Jana Shikshana Sanstan, Shimoga, has been conferred with NLM UNESCO Award – 2010 for its outstanding contribution in the field of skill development and literacy.

Karnataka has the distinction of bagging three awards among the 19 States which are implementing literacy programmes.

Citing this as a very happy development, Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa has extended his warm congratulations to all the award winning institutions.

Union Human Resources Development Minister Kapil Sibal would be conferring these awards at Hyderabad on September 8 on the occasion of International Literacy Day celebration. S.Y. Arunadevi, Director, JSS, Shimoga, and Executive Committee members and representative of Karnataka for National Literacy Mission Authority, New Delhi and others will be receiving these awards.
