Mathura: Over ten lakh pilgrims paid their obeisance on Thursday in different temples of Mathura, Vrindaban, Govardhan, Gokul and Baldeo on the occasion of Janmashtami, which marks the birth of Lord Krishna.
No untoward incident was reported. The police in plain clothes were deployed at major temples, District Magistrate Dinesh Chandra Shukla said.
The maximum rush was at Sri Krishna Janmasthan where a devotional function was held. In Dwarkadheesh temple thousands paid their obeisance to the Lord.
Several lakh pilgrims flocked to Bankey Behari temple and Goverdhan and offered prayers.
Hundreds of bhandaras (free food centres) were set up in Mathura, Govardhan and Vrindaban by temple authorities and the pilgrims were offered prasad. - PTI
