KHAMMAM: Amidst scenes of communal harmony, the Ganesh Shobha Yatra was taken out through the thoroughfares of the town on Monday marking the immersion of Ganesh idols in the Munneru river on the outskirts of the town.
Local Muslims served water to the devotees during the inaugural of the Shobha Yatra held at Gandhi Chowk spreading the fragrance of communal harmony.
Addressing the devotees after inaugurating the yatra, Collector N. Nageshwara Rao said that Khammam town earned a wide reputation for communal harmony and brotherhood. He said elaborate arrangements were made to ensure smooth conduct of the Ganesh immersion. Swimmers and fire-brigade personnel were deputed at the immersion site to prevent untoward incidents.
Superintendent of Police Kranti Rana Tata, Khammam MLA Tummala Nageswara Rao, Municipal Chairman Afroz Samina, Ganesh Utsav Committee organisers Jayachandra Reddy, Narendra and others were present.
