Milestone of India - Rare cardiac surgery performed at Kochi. (Kerala - India.)

KOCHI: A 53-year-old lottery-ticket vendor has got a new lease of life after expert surgeons performed a rare cardiac surgery on him in a private hospital in the city.

The patient diagnosed with an aortic aneurysm (ballooning of the main blood vessel of the heart) in the abdomen later developed complications from leak of blood from aneurysm into the intestine.

He was subjected to immediate operation in a complicated surgical procedure by a team of doctors led by E.V. John. The part of aorta with aneurysm and leak was replaced with an artificial graft.

After this, a gastro-surgical team, led by Deepak Varma, took over and repaired the damaged intestine.

After seven days of hospital stay, the patient was discharged in perfectly normal condition, said Medical Trust Hospital sources.

Aortic aneurysms are rare but dangerous.

Depending on the site and size of aneurysm, symptoms can vary. Some patients need not have any symptoms, while others may have chest pain, back pain, loss of voice, difficulty in swallowing, breathlessness and so on. Bleeding from aneurysm is often catastrophic and fatal, say hospital sources.

An aneurysm bleeding into the intestine is extremely rare. Survival after operation is even rarer because of bleeding and infection.

It is claimed that all over the world, there are fewer than five surviving patients who had such a type of complication.
WE ALL PRAY THE LORD VENKATESWARA AND HIS CONCERTS
FOR HIS BLESSINGS!
