GUNTUR: Sk. Abdul Rasheed, a Chilakaluripet based tailor is unusually excited for this time of the year with no festivals round the corner.
The dapper tailor shot into limelight two years back when made what he claimed as the ‘biggest' national flag. The tricolour measuring 141 feet in length and 94 feet in width weighs 102 kg and had been designed by a team of five members in less than 20 days. A whopping 1,400 square metres of Jaipur silk cloth brought from Surat was used in the making of the flag.
But on August 15, Sunday, the flag will be a special attraction at the Independence Day celebrations to be held at Police Parade Grounds in Guntur.
District Collector B. Ramanjaneyulu has given nod for displaying the flag on the grounds.
When it comes to stitching flags, Rasheed seems to dream it big. He designed a huge flag in the year 2005, and followed it up with the largest flag in the State in the year 2006. Recently, a flag designed by him and measuring 365 feet in length was carried in the Tiranga Run organised in Vijayawada in 2008.
