Milestone of India - Devotees pull temple car at SRIVILLIPUTTUR. (Tamilnadu - India.)

SRIVILLIPUTTUR: Andal Temple car-pulling event attracted hundreds of devotees on Thursday. The annual event is part of the 12-day Aadi-Pooram festival.
After special pujas were performed to the presiding deities, Andal and Rengamannar, the event began from the East Car Street at 8.05 a.m. Minister for School Education Thangam Thennarasu, District Collector V.K. Shanmugam and Inspector General of Police S.S. Krishnamoorthy were among those who participated in the event.

Enthusiastic devotees, including large number of women, pulled the car through the four Car Streets. The decorated car reached its destination in around three hours. Besides singing ‘pasurams' eulogising Lord Krishna, a group of women were seen dancing with cymbals throughout the procession route.

A huge posse of policemen, assisted by Home Guards, National Cadet Corps and volunteers of National Service Scheme from schools and colleges, regulated the large gathering. A huge crowd witnessed the colourfully decorated car from the top of various buildings.

Various voluntary organisations had put up drinking water, buttermilk stalls for the benefit of the devotees. Though the overcast sky did not test the patience of the devotees, several organisations distributed handheld fans and forehead shades.

Superintendent of Police S. Prabhakaran, District Revenue Officer B. Ganesan, Chairman, Board of Trustees, K. Ravichandran, and Temple Executive Officer Gurunathan were present.
