Milestone of india - Brahmotsavam at Tirumala - Eight tonnes of flowers for the Lord Balaji. (Andhrapradesh - India.)

TIRUMALA: The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) has so far received over eight tonnes of aromatic flowers of different varieties from several parts of the country as donation for the ongoing nine-day annual Brahmotsavams of Lord Venkateswara.
Of these, over 600 kg of flowers are being used for decorating the presiding deity alone. The donation includes over two lakh roses (ten colours of 20 varieties). The cost of these roses and cut flowers is estimated at Rs.26 lakh. Special arrangements have been made for import of rare and cut flowers from Nepal and Thailand.

Floral cutouts

The flowers are used not only for daily rituals and processions of the Lord, but also for decorating the main temple complex on special occasions like Dhwajarohanam, Garuda Seva and Rathotsavam festivals. The cost of one-time decoration of the temple with flowers is estimated to be Rs.10-12 lakh. Lending more colour to the annual fete, TTD's garden department has erected huge floral cutouts depicting various images of God and goddesses at several places atop the temple town.

Health Minister Danam Nagender is prominent among those who donate flowers to the temple alongside noted industrialists and business tycoons from Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Pune.

Over 224 eminent floral decorators from different parts of the country besides 100 garden employees of the TTD are engaged in the beautification of the temple town. To meet the daily requirements of flowers, the TTD plans to develop seven new gardens at Tirumala. While the proposed ornamental garden at the Narayanagiri gardens will be developed with an outlay of Rs. 4 crore, the remaining six gardens will be developed at cost of Rs. 60 lakh each. GMR group has come forward to extend technical support for development of the proposed gardens.
