Special rituals like ‘Punyavachanam' and ‘Navagraha danam' were performed inside the hill temple in connection with the festival. After the completion of religious formalities, the processional deities of Lord Malayappa, along with His two consorts, were ceremoniously mounted atop the wooden chariot which was dragged around the mada streets amidst religious ecstasy. The car festival commenced at 7.50 a.m. The chariot was exquisitely decorated with flowers, flags and festoons.
