Milestone for India in Asian Youth Chess Championship.

AHMEDABAD: At a time when Gujarat is looking to break Mexico's record for the highest number of chess enthusiasts playing the game simultaneously in one place on December 24, Mehsana boy Ankit Rajpara is adding more glitter to the glory of chess in the state.
Rajpara won the bronze medal in under-16 category of the Asian Youth Chess Championships at Beijing on Wednesday. He bagged his second bronze in as many meets when he finished third in the last round of the youth championships held in New Delhi.
Rajpara edged ahead Liu Guanchu of China in the final round after both were tied at the top with 5/6 points in the penultimate round. Rajpara with a Fide rating of 2353 is one of the brightest youngsters in the national chess scenario and has a long list of achievements under his belt.
He is the Commonwealth bronze medalist in the U-12 category and also a bronze medalist in the U-14 Asian Youth Chess Championship. He also got team gold in the World Youth And Asian Youth Chess Championship. Rajpara got his third and final International Masters (IM) norm at UKM Kuala Lumpur Masters after his third place finish in the meet. Rajpara needs to reach 2400 to get his IM title.
