Milestone - Balamuralikrishna is TTD's Lifetime Court Musician. (Andhra Pradesh - India.)

HYDERABAD: Carnatic vocalist Mangalampalli Balamuralikrishna has been appointed by the State government as the lifetime court musician of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD).

The appointment was conveyed to the vocalist over the phone after Chief Minister K. Rosaiah approved the TTD's recommendation on Thursday evening, chairman of the State Cultural Council R.V. Ramanamurthy told a press conference here.

Balamuralikrishna, who has functioned as a TTD court musician in the past, is the second great personality to be conferred the lifetime status by the TTD in the last two months. Lata Mangeshkar was recognised as the lifetime court singer earlier.

The appointment was made as part of the month-long 500 {+t} {+h} coronation day celebrations of the legendary king of the Vijayanagaram empire, Srikrishnadevaraya, who, it was said, used to visit Lord Venkateswara's temple at Tirupati seven times a year after he was crowned king.
