Milestone in TTD (Andhra Pradesh ) : Digital Library Director Invited for Egypt meet. (South india - India.)

TIRUPATI: The 2nd International Conference on Universal Digital Library (ICUDL 2006) would be held at Bibliotheca Alexandrina in Alexandria, Egypt from November 17 to 19.

According to a note circulated in this connection, the objective behind the meet was to provide a forum for library and IT professionals to exchange comprehensive views on the recent development and progress in the digital library technology, to promote international cooperation in related fields, advocate universal access to information and enhance the global impact of the `Universal Digital Library Project' otherwise called the Million Book Project (MBP).

Milestone

The project is considered the first milestone towards building this digital library with a free-to-read, searchable collection of one million books in various languages belonging to diversified cultures available to all nations over the Internet.

Bhumana Subramanyam Reddy, Director of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam's S.V. Digital Library — that is actively involved in the UDL programme — has been invited to attend the second in the series meet. The Million Book Project's annual workshop would be held in conjunction with the conference.

Librarians of international repute and digitisation experts from China, Egypt, India and the United States are expected to partake in the global initiative to set-up the Universal Digital Library.
