JAIPUR: Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot inducted the country's first all-women battalion, “Hadi Rani”, into Rajasthan Police at a convocation parade organised at Sultan Singh Stadium at the Police Training Centre in Jodhpur on Sunday. A total of 480 women police officers from various districts have been appointed to the battalion.
Addressing the gathering after taking salute of the impressive parade, Mr. Gehlot said the appointment of first-ever women's battalion was “a milestone in women's empowerment” in the desert State and would inspire women to courageously face challenges in their lives.
Mr. Gehlot pointed out that though the Central Reserve Police Force had two and the Border Security Force had one women's battalion, there was no police force in any State with an exclusive all-women contingent. “This is indeed a historic occasion for Rajasthan and a day [worth] being recorded in golden letters,” he remarked.
The 36-week training for the battalion had started at the Police Training Centre in November last year. The women cops have been given special training, including commando training similar to the para-military forces, to evolve them as strong and robust members of a modern police force.
Mr. Gehlot said the State Government was taking steps to strengthen the police force and provide them with more facilities. In addition to regular promotions, new appointments of 650 Sub-Inspectors would be carried out shortly.
The Chief Minister pointed out that the 13 {+t} {+h} Finance Commission had recommended an allocation of Rs.100 crore for modernisation of police force in view of its significance for internal security.
The State Government also intended to provide special allowances to the anti-terrorism and anti-sabotage squads, he added.
Director-General of Police Harish Chandra Meena said with the women's battalion joining the 80,000-strong police force of the State a new era of teamwork and cooperation will follow.
